* The dam project (no pun intended) began in April 1927 and was completed in 1930, 
during the Great Depression.
* At the time it was built, Lake Murray was the largest earthen dam in the world. 
* Its widest point is 41 miles long & 14 miles wide with a circumference of almost 650 miles.
* It covers 78 square miles and about 50,000 acres of land providing storage for 763 billion gallons of water.
